BasedInbox makes it easy to capture expenses from various document types. Our AI-powered extraction supports receipts, invoices, and bank statements.

Supported File Types

Format Max Size Best For
PDF 25MB Bank statements, invoices
JPG/JPEG 25MB Receipt photos
PNG 25MB Screenshots, scanned receipts

Large documents supported: We support bank statements up to 50+ pages. Processing time scales with document size.

How to Upload

Drag and Drop

The easiest way to upload is to drag files directly onto the upload area:

  1. Go to Upload in the sidebar
  2. Drag your files onto the upload zone
  3. Wait for the AI to process

Click to Browse

Alternatively, click the upload area to open your file browser and select documents.

Multiple Files

You can upload multiple files at once. Each document will be processed separately and added to your review queue.

Bank Statement Support

We support bank statements from major banks worldwide:

  • Chase — Personal and business accounts
  • Bank of America — All account types
  • Wells Fargo — Checking and savings
  • HSBC — Global banking
  • Barclays — UK and international
  • ANZ — Australia and New Zealand
  • DBS — Singapore and regional
  • Maybank — Malaysia and regional

Don't see your bank? We're constantly adding support for new formats. Contact us at [email protected] with a sample statement (with sensitive data redacted) and we'll add it within 48 hours.

Tips for Bank Statements

  • Download the official PDF from your bank's online portal
  • Avoid screenshots or scanned copies when possible
  • Ensure the statement includes the full transaction list
  • Password-protected PDFs are not supported

Receipt Tips

For best extraction results with receipts:

Do's

  • Take photos in good lighting
  • Ensure the entire receipt is visible
  • Keep the receipt flat and unwrinkled
  • Use the original receipt when possible

Don'ts

  • Don't crop out important details
  • Avoid blurry or dark photos
  • Don't upload heavily folded receipts
  • Skip thermal receipts that have faded

Processing Time

Document Type Typical Time
Single receipt 10-20 seconds
Invoice 15-30 seconds
Bank statement (1-10 pages) 30-60 seconds
Bank statement (10-30 pages) 1-3 minutes
Bank statement (30+ pages) 3-5 minutes

Large documents with many transactions take longer because we extract and categorize every line item.

After Upload

Once uploaded, your documents appear in the Review queue. From there you can:

  • Verify extracted data
  • Make corrections
  • Add categories and notes
  • Move to your transaction history

Troubleshooting

"Failed to extract data"

This usually means:

  • The document quality is too low
  • The format isn't recognized
  • The file is corrupted

Try uploading a clearer version or a different format.

"Bank not supported"

We're constantly adding new bank formats. If your bank isn't supported, contact us at [email protected] with a sample statement (with sensitive data redacted) and we'll add support within 48 hours.
